Helping regulatees comply

The focus of the Office of the Conflict of Interest and Ethics Commissioner is on preventing conflicts of interests by helping public office holders and Members of the House of Commons comply with the Conflict of Interest Act and the Conflict of Interest Code for Members of the House of Commons.

The Office informs public office holders and Members about what they must do to comply with the regimes, through direct communications and a range of education and outreach activities.

It guides reporting public office holders and Members through the compliance processes.

It provides confidential advice and direction tailored to their individual situations. Regulatees frequently seek advice from the Office about how to arrange their affairs to comply with the Act and the Code, and how to deal with various situations, such as whether they may accept certain gifts.

It provides assistance, as needed, in completing confidential disclosure forms and public declarations.
