The focus of the Office of the Conflict of Interest and Ethics Commissioner is on preventing conflicts of interest. It helps public office holders and Members of the House of Commons comply with the
Conflict of Interest Act and the
Conflict of Interest Code for Members of the House of Commons.
The Office informs public office holders and Members about what they must do to comply with the regimes, through direct communications and a range of education and outreach activities.
It guides reporting public office holders and Members through the compliance processes.
It gives them confidential advice and direction tailored to their individual situations. Members and public office holders often ask the Office for advice about how to arrange their affairs to comply with the Act and the Code, and how to deal with various situations, such as whether they may accept certain
gifts.
The Office helps them, as needed, to fill out confidential disclosure forms and public declarations.
