The Conflict of Interest and Ethics Commissioner enforces the
Conflict of Interest Act and the Conflict of Interest Code for Members of the House of Commons as appropriate. Investigating possible contraventions of these regimes is a key means of
enforcement.
What the Commissioner
may investigate and
may not investigate is governed by the Commissioner's mandate.
Processes for initiating and conducting
investigations under the Act and
investigations under the Code are set out in the Act and the Code. All investigations are conducted confidentially to preserve the integrity and fairness of the investigative process.
Information is available for
participants in an investigation so they know what to expect.
When an investigation is completed, the Commissioner reports publicly on the findings. There is no timeline for releasing investigation reports. Investigations are conducted thoroughly and with a high degree of diligence, and reports are made public as quickly as possible.
