Welcome to the
Commissioner's Office
We help elected and appointed federal officials avoid conflicts between public and private interests

Welcome to our temporary website. We are enhancing the user experience, with a focus on accessibility, navigation, and ease of use. These improvements will be introduced in phases. In the meantime, you can access some information through this page. Thank you for your patience as we continue to make improvements as part of the launch of ethicscanada.ca.

The Commissioner is an independent Officer of the House of Commons who administers two sets of rules. They aim to prevent conflicts between the public duties of appointed and elected officials, and private interests.

Conflict of Interest Act
A law that applies to ministers, parliamentary secretaries, ministerial staff, deputy ministers, associate deputy ministers, people appointed to their positions by the Governor in Council (the Governor General acting on the advice of the Cabinet), and some senior public servants. About 3,000 people are subject to the Act. The Commissioner’s Office posts information about their compliance in a searchable public registry.

Conflict of Interest Code for Members of the House of Commons
A code of conduct that applies to all 343 elected Members of the House of Commons. Members who are ministers or parliamentary secretaries must also follow the Conflict of Interest Act. The Commissioner’s Office posts information about their compliance in a searchable public registry.

Public Registry

We’ve made our public registry available for your convenience.

Members and reporting public office holders must give the Commissioner a lot of personal and financial information. The Commissioner’s Office makes some of it public, by posting it in the public registry. The registry is a searchable database that anyone can access. It lets Canadians see how federal officials are complying with the Act and the Code.

You may notice that the registry looks a little different from what you’re used to. While the interface has changed, all the same information is available and can be searched in a similar way.
